About this free hours calculator
HoursBooks is a free work-hours calculator built for small crews and hourly teams. Add your employees, enter clock-in and clock-out times for each day, and it automatically deducts unpaid lunch breaks and splits each workweek into regular hours and overtime (over 40 hours per week at 1.5×, both adjustable). It supports weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly pay periods, and exports clean timesheets to CSV or print for payroll.
With a free account, employers get a shared cloud workspace: hours sync across every device, and any tablet becomes a punch-clock kiosk — workers tap their name, enter a PIN, and the camera snaps a photo with every punch. Punch times are stamped by the server, so records can't be faked, and managers see live totals and a full punch log from anywhere.

Common questions
How is overtime calculated?
Per workweek, following the US FLSA rule: hours over 40 in a single week are paid at 1.5× the hourly rate, regardless of pay-period length. The threshold and multiplier are configurable.
How are lunch breaks handled?
Each employee has a default lunch deduction (30 minutes out of the box). It is subtracted from the day's hours automatically, and any single day can be overridden.
Is the calculator really free?
Yes — the calculator works with no account, saved on your own device. Employer accounts with cloud sync and the punch-clock kiosk are free while HoursBooks is in beta.
Can employees punch in from their phones?
Phone clock-in with GPS location stamps is coming next, alongside the tablet kiosk.
